Line overview

1-Effect of insecticides on enzymes involved in detoxification mechanisms of the spider Loxosceleslaeta.

This line of investigation focuses on the biochemical study of the effect of insecticides commonly used in agricultural systems or urban areas on enzymes involved in the detoxification mechanisms of spiders and different behavioral aspects of these organisms.
We work with diverse species present in agricultural ecosystems (such as Polybetes pythagoricus and Misumenops maculissparsus), and urban species of great relevance for its sanitary importance (such as Loxosceleslaeta).
These studies allow for evaluating the effects of the insecticides in the physiology and behavior of spiders of different habitats.

2-How do arachnids acclimate to cold? Adaptive homeoviscosity and production of antifreezes.

This line of investigation studies the biochemical adaptations of spiders facing the exposure to different temperatures, including their capacity to adapt to cold by the production of cryoprotectants.
The study focuses on the biochemical changes, especially in the composition of lipids and fatty acids, which allows for adjusting their physiology to different environments. These mechanisms are of special relevance for their survival in unstable conditions such as those given in the current context of climate change
