The Institute of Biochemical Research of La Plata "Prof. Dr. Rodolfo R. Brenner" (INIBIOLP) is a non-profit institution affiliated with the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) and the National University of La Plata (UNLP). It works s within the Scientific and Technological Center of La Plata (CCT-La Plata, CONICET) and is headquartered at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of UNLP.
Its foundational roots date back to 1956 and has functioned as a joint CONICET/UNLP institute since 1982.
The main objective of INIBIOLP is the generation, promotion, and application of scientific knowledge in Biochemical and Biological Sciences through research, teaching, and the transfer of this knowledge to the productive, health, agricultural sectors, and various levels of society.
To contribute to creating high-quality scientific knowledge in biomedical, biological, and agricultural sciences, to developing and transferring innovative technologies with a high scientific-technological impact, and to training human resources of excellence in teaching and research.
INIBIOLP is a multidisciplinary institute that contributes to the scientific understanding of biochemical, biophysical, and biological processes, mainly those involving lipids and proteins. It approaches these processes from both a fundamental perspective—such as their interactions, metabolism, and structure-function-evolution relationships—and with an eye toward potential applications in various fields of ONE HEALTH and the BIOTECHNOLOGICAL AND AGRICULTURAL sectors.
The institute has impact on the social and productive sectors through high-level technical services (STANs) dedicated to the analysis of biomolecules, insecticides, and cellular toxicity, among others, as well as partnerships with public hospitals, companies, and generation of various patents. Additionally, INIBIOLP places great importance on postgraduate education by organizing specialized courses on topics such as chromatography, cytometry, and molecular biology, among others.
Another strength of the institute's professionals is their involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in several UNLP programs, including medicine, nutrition, veterinary science, biology, and agronomy.
